exiles
︎︎︎ digital illustration, visual narrative, risograph printingA comic I made for my research-based BFA thesis project.
The story explores themes of trauma and inner conflict through the lens of IFS (Internal Family Systems) a therapy practice that separates the “Self” and its conficting thoughts/emotions into personified “parts”. The title, “Exiles,” is a term used in IFS to designate parts that the Self has neglected or abandoned. The movie Inside Out is based on this same concept (with Sadness being the exile)!
I chose a blue and red color palette to visualize the extreme contrast between the characters of Self and Exile. Using digital watercolor as a medium allowed me to give the story a cloudy, distorted, and haunting tone, and freed the narriative to blur and shift between reality, headspace, and memory.

︎︎︎ programming, writing, worldbuildingA choose-your-own-adventure game I wrote and coded.
After learnng Twine and some basic CMS, I was inspired by a comic I wrote as a teenager about greif and spiders. The connections between spider silk, weaving, and code stuck with me, and I decided to rework the concept as a game.
With my rudimentary coding skills, I was limited to using only words and text manipulation to tell the story. However, I think the constraint led to an unexpected presentation that felt alienating and unstable, which the story molded to fit as it was created. It was a unique process, and something I’d like to experiment more with in the future.
